De eerste editie van Roots in the Park zal niet zo heel lang meer op zich laten wachten. Op 6 juli wordt het Utrechtse Julianapark voor één dag het muzikaal epicentrum voor iedereen die graag geniet van goede roots, folk, blues en soul in een ontspannen ‘parksfeer’.
Naast het muzikale programma is er meer om van te genieten. Een sfeervolle festivalmarkt om af te struinen en (muzikale) aanvullingen op het veld. Eén van deze aanvullingen is ‘De Witte Snor’, op een oude traktor uit de 60’s worden vintage LP’s ten gehore gebracht. Je moet het zien om te begrijpen!

Maar de hoofdzaak blijft natuurlijk de internationale programmering: Het kleine festival met grote namen. Nog even het muzikale programma in het kort:

Van ballad tot blues, maar altijd recht uit het hart: de Amerikaanse Beth Hart staat voor een show-van-niveau (en let wel: haar enige show in Nederland deze zomer!). Succes verzekerd!

Ook uit The States: Gov’t Mule. Deze southern rockformatie onder leiding van Warren Haynes (Ja inderdaad, die van de Allman Brothers Band) knalt tijdens liveshows van het podium.

Een graag geziene gast op de Europese festivals (maar zelden daadwerkelijk overseas te zien) is de Otis Taylor Band uit Colorado: bluezy, rauw en illuster.

Dan Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers, de bebaarde Canadees zorgde met zijn rauwe alternatieve folk (je moet het zien om het te begrijpen) voor uitverkochte zalen tijdens zijn laatste tour door Nederland.

The Excitements: de dampende 60’s rhythm ‘n blues van deze Spaanse band onder leiding van frontvrouw Koko Jean (Aretha, eat your heart out!) zal de temperatuur in het park hoog doen oplopen.

Tweemaal Glastonbury én lovende recensies van RollingStone Magazine voor de Britse folk/americanaband The Epstein. Deze band zorgt met hun folky country voor een feestje.

Een stevige set blues-zoals-het-hoort wordt verzorgd door de Amerikaanse band Moreland & Arbuckle. Dit energieke trio reist de wereld over met hun mix van ‘een eeuw Amerikaanse rootsmuziek’. 

Neerlands trots Maison Du Malheur trapt de dag af. Met het album Wicked Transmission onder de arm zijn zij bezig aan een muzkale kruistocht en rusten niet tot alle voetjes van de vloer zijn geweest!
